Reminder! Beginning on 8/1/2012 Information Resources will begin upgrading any PC on campus that is still running Office 2003 to Office 2010. (If you are running Office 2007, you are free to upgrade to Office 2010 at anytime by also following the below steps.)
 
This upgrade is part of the on-going project to migrate from the GroupWise email system to Microsoft Exchange. 
 
You may manually upgrade your computer to Office 2010 by following these 4 steps:
1) Locate and double click the Desktop Manager icon on your desktop. It looks like a "Rocket Ship" - If you can not locate the Desktop Manager, please call the Helpdesk at 8-7995.
2) On the left side of the Desktop Manager, click on "Software Deployment Portal"
3) Locate "Microsoft Office Professional Plus" from the list of applications and click on the check box
4) At the bottom of the Software Portal, click "Deploy"
 
This will uninstall Office 2003 and install Office 2010. The process can take up to 30 mins. depending on the speed of your system.
 
We recognize that there may be vendor applications that are incompatible with Office 2010. If you believe that because of a specific application on your PC that you can not be upgraded to Office 2010, please contact the Customer Support Helpdesk at 8-7995 so we can discuss options with you.

Important Update Regarding the GroupWise to Exchange Email Migration

Information Resources will be making a change to the GroupWise System on June 29th, 2012 that may impact you.
If you have enabled the "Auto-Archive" feature for your GroupWise mailbox, this message applies to you and please read on. If you do not use the Auto Archive feature, this message does not apply to you and you may delete it. Also, if you are a Hospital Employee, this does not apply to you. If you are unsure if you are using the "Auto Archive" feature, you can check by following the next few steps:

1) Launch the GroupWise client
2) Select Tools from the main menu ---->Options---->Environment
3) Select the "Cleanup" tab
4) If any of the radio buttons next to "Auto Archive" are selected, then you have the feature enabled and need to read below.

In preparation for migrating email systems from GroupWise to Microsoft Outlook/Exchange, Information Resources will be disabling the Auto-Archive feature of GroupWise. This will happen on June 29th, 2012. After this date, any email message that you wish to place into the GroupWise Archive system will need to be done manually. We are making this change to ensure the successful migration of all email into the new email system.

To archive a GroupWise message manually, perform the following steps:
1) Launch the GroupWise client Select "Actions" from the menu (note: You can only have access to the GroupWise archive from on campus and using the client. GroupWise WebMail does not have the ability to access the GroupWise Archive)
2) Select "Move to Archive"
3) The message will now be placed in the GroupWise archive

Alternatively, you can archive a message(s) from the main message list in your GroupWise in-box by simply "right clicking" on the message you wish to archive with your mouse and selecting "Archive" from the list of options.

A portion of valid email coming into the Medical Center between the hours of 5:41pm Thursday and 8:11am this morning was returned to the sender as undeliverable because of an issue on 1 of three spamfirewalls.  The sender should be able to resend any email that was not allowed through our system.

New Campus Email System Coming This Fall!

The next generation of email is coming to your email box.

Starting this fall, Microsoft Outlook/Exchange will replace GroupWise, the email system used by nearly all entities on campus. Anyone using a kumc.edu address will retain their current email address, and their GroupWise data will be migrated to Exchange.
The change encompasses The University of Kansas Hospital and its off-campus locations, as well as Mid-America Cardiology; the University of Kansas Medical Center and its KU Wichita Medical Practice Association; and The University of Kansas Physicians.

IT leaders at those organizations say GroupWise was falling behind in a world where integration is vital. “In our business, it’s imperative that our communication systems work together,” said Matthew Fuoco, director of Telecommunications & Networking at the medical center. “Outlook/Exchange gives us that benefit.”  The market leader in business email systems, Outlook/Exchange integrates easily with SharePoint websites, telephone systems (including voice mail) and with outside business partners, including systems on the Lawrence campus.

“It also offers a more reliable and better integrated mobility solution, which is important for users of smart phones and other mobile devices,” said Sean Roberts, the hospital’s systems director of Information Technology.

Many new and enhanced features will be part of this migration including instant messaging, a robust webmail client, and better integration with 3rd party applications.  The migration to Outlook/Exchange is months away, but IT leaders wanted to unveil the plan now, to keep everyone in the loop.

Also, because all email, and calendars will migrate over to Outlook/Exchange, the early heads-up gives you plenty of time to start cleaning out those musty folders and archives that don’t need to make the jump to Outlook/Exchange.

As the migration to the new system nears, watch for many training opportunities as well as continuous online training.

The migration to Outlook/Exchange will be a major undertaking. IT groups at the hospital, the university and UKP will pilot the new system for several weeks, followed by a “big bang” migration weekend – currently slated for late fall.

Even after that weekend, the migration will stretch for several weeks.

AT&T has discovered that our off-campus calling problem is due to an equipment failure in the central office that routes our inbound and outbound campus calls. They are working on the problem and hope to have it resolved within the next 30 minutes.

myKUMC Intermittent Issues

Yesterday, Feb 15th, we launched a new version of myKUMC. Today at about 11:30am we experienced some issues with the new portal and brought back up a copy of our old version.
